27 Aug 2009
After a successful gas trial on June 28th this year, the 22,000 cbm LPG carrier “DESERT ORCHID” was put into service in China. The sister vessel “DANCING BRAVE” passed a successful gas trial on August 26th in the Philippines and Singapore.
These successful system start-ups are another important milestone for TGE Marine Gas Engineering, who designed and provided the entire gas plant including tank material package. The two ships are the first gas tankers which have been built at the new yard facilities of Jiangnan Shipyard Corp, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC), at Changxing Island. The entire shipyard facilities have been recently relocated from Shanghai City to Changxing Island located in the Yangtze river, to make way for Shanghai Expo 2010.
The ships have been built for Petredec Limited, a Bermuda based international liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) trading and ship-owning company.
The gas plant comprises four (4) bilobe type cargo tanks, two deck tanks, three reliquefaction modules, cargo pumps, cargo heating and vaporizing system, several utility systems, a nitrogen generation plant, the electrical switchboard for all gas plant consumers as well as the cargo control system.
