Successful completion and commissioning of the LNG fuel gas conversion of the WES AMELIE

TGE Marine Gas Engineering successfully completed the conversion project of the WES AMELIE by commissioning of the installed LNG fuel gas system, allowing the vessel to switch over from traditional HFO/MDO fuel burning to environmental friendly LNG propulsion from September 2017.
The WES AMELIE is in service since 2011 and represents a typical 1 000 TEU Container feeder vessel, operating predominantly within the emission control areas of the North and the Baltic Sea.
Facing stricter emission requirements, the shipping company Wessels stepped into a contract with TGE Marine Gas Engineering for the design and supply of the LNG fuel gas system in 2015. Beside the design and arrangement of the system developed in close cooperation with the Owner, TGE delivered the LNG containment, the components for LNG fuel gas plant, the control and safety systems.
The conversion of the WES AMELIE to LNG propulsion was worldwide considered as a pioneering conversion project in view of feasibility and operational requirements for such type of existing container feeder vessels. Based on TGE’s combined expertise in LNG storage, handling and processing as well as in naval architecture and marine engineering, the LNG fuel gas system could be properly integrated into the navigational and operational requirements of the WES AMELIE to the full satisfaction of shipping company Wessels.
