We have successfully developed a tailor-made fuel gas supply system for Global Auto Carriers, a joint venture between Solvang ASA, Atlantic Lloyd, F. Laeisz and others! states Dieter Hilmes
TGE Marine and compressor supplier Köhler & Hörter GmbH (KoHo) have completed a factory acceptance test (FAT) for the handling of Boil-of-Gas (BOG) in November 2024. This reciprocating compressor type delivers oil-free compressed BOG which ensures reliable operation of TGE Marine’s patented Reconomiser.
The Reconomiser ensures that full recondensation of excess Boil Off Gas (BOG) takes place. This means that the recondensed BOG is routed to the HP fuel gas pump and consumed by the main HP engine. The system comes with a two-stage compressor that enables a recondensation rate of more than 20% of the main engines’ fuel consumption. This solution enables operators to decrease their operational costs by ensuring that BOG can be used as fuel when the main engine is running with a certain load. The Fuel Gas System is designed for maximum uptime with a high grade of redundancy as all relevant systems components are duplicated, and all sensitive components are protected with a sophisticated filter concept. Furthermore, TGE Marine’s service team can use remote access to detect faults at an early stage and so take action if necessary.
This solution was created for, and will be installed on the new PCTC vessels that will be managed by Reederei F. Laeisz . In the series of four 7,000 car capacity vessels, TGE Marine’s scope cope includes two Type-C LNG fuel gas tanks per vessel with a capacity of 1,675 m³ each, fuel gas supply systems and its innovative Reconomiser System that has a high condensation rate for boil-off-gas (BOG) handling.
Reederei F. Laeisz managing technical director Harald Schlotfeldt said: “Together with the experts from TGE Marine, we have succeeded in developing a first-class fuel gas supply system that will give us many years of very competitive operating costs.”
The vessels are to be built by China Merchants Jingling Shipyard (Weihai) Co. Ltd and will be delivered between the end of 2025 – 2026.
